Itinerary

Our itinerary is planned, but we are always prepared to change things up based on weather and light conditions. Of course, at night we’ll be on watch for northern lights, so evening plans will be based around them.

DAY 1

Please fly into Leknes (LKN), Norway. Note: you’ll receive more detailed travel information after signing up. You will be picked up and driven to our lodging to drop your bags off and get acquainted with the accommodations. We’ll head out for a welcome dinner shortly after checking in. We expect everyone to be quite jet-lagged, so no aurora excursion is planned for this evening. However, if the heavens put on a show, we can always put on a fresh pot of coffee and head out!

DAY 2

We’ll head out for sunrise and spend the day driving around and exploring the gorgeous Lofoten archipelago. This time of year the sun stays low to the horizon, providing us with continuous “golden hour” light for the entire day.

The nights in the arctic circle are long, so we’ll check aurora borealis predictions and decide when/where to go for optimal viewing.

DAY 3

We’ll again head out for sunrise and spend the day driving around and exploring the gorgeous Lofoten archipelago.

For dinner we’ll drive to Bøstad for an authentic Viking feast at the Lofotr Viking Museum! We’ll experience local culture inside the largest Viking structure ever found, and dine on a freshly cooked meal in the traditional Viking style. When our bellies are full and our hearts are content we’ll head back south - keeping our eyes peeled for the aurora, of course!

Meal and drinks included: Viking feast dinner

DAY 4

The day will be spent exploring the beautiful harbors, beaches, and fjords of the islands, and the night will be spent hunting down the aurora!

DAY 5

We’ll head out for sunrise and spend the day driving around and exploring the gorgeous Lofoten archipelago. After sunset, we’ll keep our eyes to the skies for the dancing lights.

DAY 6

Our last full day on the islands will again be spent exploring the beautiful harbors, beaches, and fjords of the islands, and the night will be spent hunting down the aurora!

DAY 7

On our final morning, we have the opportunity to double back to any locations we want to see again. We’ll enjoy a group brunch at our favorite cafe before you’re dropped off at the Leknes (LKN) airport to fly home.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

You’re Sony ambassadors, Do I have to bring a Sony camera?

No! Feel free to bring whatever camera you choose. The more familiar you are with your camera, the better results you’ll get.

What skill level is required to attend?

All photography levels are welcome, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro.

What fitness level is expected?

Moderate. It will be cold and we will be walking through snow, but we won’t be doing anything rigorous. Make sure to bring waterproof pants and boots so you can stay warm and dry!

What is the age range of the group?

All ages are welcome! We typically have a variety of ages, but we’ve had participants ranging from their teens all the way through their 80s.

Do I need a power adapter?

Norway uses the Europlug (types C + F), which has two round prongs. Don’t forget to pack adapters for your electronic devices!

What are the accommodations like?

We’re staying in adorable red cabins right on the water. The cabins are double occupancy, but if you’d prefer single occupancy, please reach out to us via the form at the bottom of the page. The cabins each have two bedrooms with two beds per room. They also come with a fully equipped kitchen where we’ll make a few meals!

What is the food like?

There are a lot of options! You’ll find a good amount of seafood since we’re going to an archipelago, but you’ll also find almost every other type of food as well. Eating out in Norway is expensive, so we try to limit that in order to keep everything affordable by utilizing the kitchens in our cabins. But we have a few nights out on the schedule, including the incredibly fun Viking Feast! If you have any food restrictions and/or allergies, please let us know ahead of time. Norway is very accommodating.

How cold will it be?

The Trans-Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation keeps the Lofoten Islands significantly warmer than you’d expect considering their latitude. We can expect temperatures between 5ºF and 35ºF, but come prepared for -10ºF, just in case. Also, we’re going to be spending a lot of time standing outside, and that tends to make it feel significantly colder than it actually is.
